Nanda Devi is the second-highest mountain in India after Kangchenjunga, and the highest peak located entirely within the country. It is the 23rd-highest mountain in the world and ranks 74th by topographic prominence, in Chamoli Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, northern India.
Fostering excellence in higher education across India
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) serves as the fulcrum of excellence at Uttaranchal University. Led by dedicated faculty members and administrators, the IQAC fosters a culture of innovation, transparency, and accountability. Through systematic planning and rigorous monitoring, it optimizes curriculum design, pedagogical approaches, and assessment practices while facilitating stakeholder engagement and benchmarking.
Centered on "हिमालय बोध", the workshop emphasizes quality assurance, outcome-based education, responsible AI integration, sustainability, community engagement etc. Aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, it brings together educators, administrators, and quality assurance professionals to exchange best practices and strategic insights for enhancing academic excellence.
Uttaranchal University is recognized by the UGC under sections 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956, and by other statutory bodies of the State and the Nation. The University has been promoted by Sushila Devi Centre for Professional Studies & Research, a society registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860). The University has been accredited with the prestigious "A+ Grade" by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Uttaranchal University has become the first university in the State of Uttarakhand to receive "NAAC A+" Grade in the first cycle of Accreditation and thus created a history.
Uttaranchal University’s national and global achievements reflect its consistent rise in prominence. The University has been featured in the WURI Rankings from 2022 to 2025, followed by its appearance in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2024 and 2025, underscoring its strong contributions to global research and innovative practices. In 2024, it achieved a remarkable position- fifth nationally and twenty-fifth internationally- under UNSDG Goal 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy) in the THE World Impact Rankings. The University further strengthened its global footprint with its inclusion in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, QS Sustainability Rankings, and THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings in 2025. On the national front, the School of Pharmacy (Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences) secured the 75th rank in NIRF 2025.

Prof. T. G. Sitharam is a distinguished engineer and educator whose career spans academic leadership, institutional development and national policy. With a sustained record of service in premier institutions, he has played an influential role in shaping engineering education and research ecosystems across India. As a seasoned institution builder and policy thinker, Prof. Sitharam brings a pragmatic yet visionary approach to higher education reform, faculty development and industry-academia linkages.
During his tenure in leadership positions, including service as Chairman of a national regulatory body for technical education and as Director of a leading technical institute, Prof. Sitharam has championed quality enhancement, curriculum modernization and outcomes-focused learning. His work emphasises strengthening institutional capacity through strategic planning, infrastructure development and the adoption of contemporary pedagogical practices that better prepare students for evolving technological and societal challenges.
Prof. Sitharam’s contributions extend beyond administration to research and mentorship. He has guided several research projects, supported interdisciplinary collaboration, and mentored faculty and doctoral students to pursue impactful research agendas. He advocates evidence-based decision making and has encouraged the use of data-driven systems within institutional quality assurance frameworks to improve transparency and accountability.
